UWI establishes Mosquito Unit

first_imgMosquito warning The Ministry of Health has partnered with the University of the West Indies (UWI) Mona Campus to establish a Mosquito Control and Research Unit.he unit will be responsible for coordinating best practices in integrated vector management and research into mosquito control and eradication. An entomologist, who will head the unit, will coordinate work from the resulting collaboration between the Ministry’s Vector Control Unit and the UWI’s research.Other stakeholders that will be incorporated include the UWI’s International Centre for Environmental and Nuclear Sciences (ICENS), Jamaica Red Cross, Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) and the National Youth Service (NYS).The unit was formally launched by Health Minister, Dr Christopher Tufton, and UWI Principal, Professor Archibald McDonald, during a ceremony at the institution on Friday.Tufton said the unit’s establishment reflects the requisite coordinated and integrated stakeholder approach to arresting the “clear and present” danger posed by the mosquito, the primary vector that spreads diseases such as Chikungunya, Dengue Fever and Zika.Noting the various interventions being undertaken by the Ministry, University and other stakeholders in this regard, Tufton said it can be logically concluded that “if we were to bring all of these together and coordinate the efforts, then we would be a lot more effective (in) the control and, hopefully, elimination of the mosquitoes over time”.last_img read more

Betting Odds For August 9, 2017

first_imgPrediction for this game is that Benfica will score at most 3 goals.Romania, Liga 1:FC Steaua București Fscb vs Cs Municipal (Home win)Having drawn their last league game because of UEFA Champions League qualifier, Fotbal Club Fscb will now turn all their attention back to league football, with lowly CS Municipal to battle.FC Steaua București Fscb’s have always been dominant over Cs Municipal, this game will be no different. Prediction is a home win for FC Steaua București Fscb.Russia, Premier League:Fc Ural vs Zenith St Petersburg (Away under 2.5 goals)No sugar coating this fixture, the reason why this game will be under 2.5 goals for Zenith St Petersburg is that Zenith scored 4 goals in their last game and there is no repeating that in this game.I can see Zenith struggle in this match and could even lose it, so stay on the safe side and be careful.Peru, Primera Division Apertura:Real Garcilaso vs Cc Deportivo Municipal (Home team to score 1 to 2 goals)Real Garcilaso came back from a goal down to win their last match and will want to continue on a winning note, but Deportivo Municipal is a decent side that can cause Garcilaso real trouble. There won’t be plenty goals in this tie, so my prediction is home team to score 1 to 2 goals, that is, at most 2 goals for Garcilaso. Portugal, Primeira Liga:Benfica vs Sporting Braga (Home score 1 to 3 goals)Primeira Liga defending champions, Benfica, will want to kick off their title defense on a winning note as they square up against Sporting Braga in the season opener. Benfica will be fully aware of FC Porto’s title challenge,Benfica would want all three points so as to relieve themselves from pressure, considering that their arch rivals, FC Porto will play Estoril Praia earlier on Wednesday, before Benfica face Braga in the late night kick off.Benfica’s opponent, Sporting Braga, have already been playing competitive games before the season kicks off, following their involvement in Europa League playoffs, meaning Braga are in a better match-shape and the game will be a difficult test for Benfica. This is a little more than a 3 odds multiplier picks.Writer: The master mind center_img RelatedThe Big Seven Matches This WeekendJanuary 12, 2018In “England”Nigerian Midfielder Pens Deal To Wear SACRED Mantle On Valentine’s DayFebruary 15, 2020In “Europe”The Big Seven Matches This WeekendFebruary 2, 2018In “England”last_img read more

British bettors turning attention to scintillating Scudetto race

first_img Oddschecker: ‘Unusual circumstances’ fail to hinder Royal Ascot traffic July 23, 2020 Related Articles StumbleUpon Restructured GVC sidelines Oddschecker affiliate services  July 8, 2020 Share Share Submit Favourable football results and US expansion drive Kambi Q1 growth April 24, 2020 As the Premier League fizzles out in mundane fashion, British bettors are turning their attention to the dramatic finish in Italy, after Kalidou Koulibaly’s last minute header injected new life into the Serie A title race.Oddschecker revealed that last Sunday’s crunch tie between Napoli and Juventus attracted eight times more betting interest than the Milan derby from earlier in the season. Emphasising that attention from British bettors on Italian football is, and will continue to grow as the Premier League comes to a conclusion. Punters like to bet on competitive, down to the wire action, as opposed to watching one team run away with their respective league. If it comes down to the last day of the season, we guarantee that a massive spike in interest will take place.Oddschecker spokesperson George Elek said: “With Serie A coming down to the wire, as well as the showdown televised game on Sunday evening there has undoubtedly been a spike in British interest in Italian football, and this has translated across into the money staked on the league too.“This is sure to continue through until the race is run, with Napoli obviously proving the popular team to back after their deserved and dramatic victory.”As it stands this morning, Juventus are still the marginal favourites at 4/5 with a one point advantage over Maurizio Sarri’s team, however the race for Italy’s biggest prize now looks like going to the wire. However, this saturday Juventus face a daunting trip to the San Siro to take on Champions League chasing Inter. According to oddschecker, punters are overwhelmingly backing Napoli to topple the Juventus stranglehold on Serie A, with 83% of all bets in the last 24 hours on the Partenopei Gli Azzuri.last_img read more

World Cup diary – Finding the volume to ‘absorb’ the sharpest punters on BetRegal

first_imgShare Submit BetRegal.com, a new sportsbook created to provide its customers with the “highest possible value” in prices, is on the road to Russia for this summer’s FIFA World Cup.In the fifth diary of this series, the company’s Head of Marketing Aly Lalani discusses avoiding a simple bonusing strategy, reflecting on the ’cause’ and ‘effect’ of decisions made at brand inception, and absorbing the impact of ‘better-than-average’ BetRegal punters.“Differentiators. We need to be differentiated somehow.“We definitely don’t want to be just another sports offering, we need to give people a reason to wager with us.“Simply bonusing customers isn’t a strategy we want to pursue. Bonuses will be a supplemental component alongside a more compelling USP.”These were words that were spoken way back when first discussions took place around building and launching an iGaming brand. These are thoughts that still hold true for us today and apply not only in iGaming but in any competitive space (you can replace ‘sports offering’ with ‘pump station’ if you like). When I step back from the day to day operational responsibilities, and take a more wholistic view, it’s amazing to see how the decisions made during those initial months have shaped our journey to where we are now and defined what choices and challenges we face today.I suppose it seems like an obvious statement, but being involved with BetRegal.com since inception and through our initial growth has given me a unique visibility into the concept of ‘cause’ and ‘effect’ on a very tangible scale. When it was being decided that BetRegal.com was going to try and differentiate ourselves with pricing and customer service, we of course evaluated the potential impact. When I say evaluated, I mean discussed. On the customer service side, there isn’t too much exposure. Sure, we may end up giving away some free bets to try and soothe a customer, but we can keep firm control of that. Not too much risk there at all. On the pricing side however, that’s another story. There are surely ways to manage our overall exposure, but most of those are reactive. If we think about the logical sources of traffic when price is the key (or one of the key) differentiators, it stands to reason that we consider odds comparison sites, or odds comparison components of sites. These are users who are focused on value, and understand what’s gained by even a modest variance in pricing. The good side is that these customers will typically have a longer lifespan, especially if they value in your lines. The downside of course is that these users are typically a little smarter than the average recreational punter. Not saying that they are all long term sharp punters, but I think the hold percentage would skew a little below average for this segment over the long term.Keep in mind that my previous experience was with Pinnacle for about seven years. Pinnacle, the site with the staggering amounts of betting volume. When betting volumes are significant, it’s easier to ‘absorb’ the impact of some better-than-average punters because presumably there is enough recreational betting action to cushion the blow.An interesting trend that seems to be emerging is that we are seeing a higher percentage of our betting volume coming from these ‘better-than-average’ punters which is putting downward pressure on our hold percentage. As I referred to cause and effect above, this seems to be a completely natural reaction to the decisions that were made in the beginning. We knew that if we were going to try and be aggressive on our pricing, it would naturally lead to the type of customer that would try to take advantage of that pricing (and I don’t mean take advantage in a negative way). This was in no way unexpected, it’s just very interesting to see the whole entire evolution unfold in front of your eyes. For BetRegal.com to achieve the goal of brand recognition as one of the leading iGaming brands in terms of pricing value for the customer, we need to get this snowball of bet volume rolling a little bit faster. The more volume we can generate, the more aggressive we can be in terms of our pricing and limits, which in turn will allow us to generate more volume, which in turn will allow us to be more aggressive on pricing, and so on.Until we reach the point of critical mass for that momentum to starts (and even after it starts), we must be cognizant of how aggressive we are on pricing, so we don’t price ourselves right out of any profitability. However, I previously acknowledged the positive impact on player acquisition of pricing the ATP World Tour Finals at 98%. It’s this sort of success that highlights why we must take the rough with the smooth in relation to sharp punters, not losing sight of the merits of our multi-sport differentiation strategy. From the start, I said we needed a peg to hang our hat on and declare THIS is who we are going to be. We need to stay true to the principles that underpinned our successful launch. This is not the time to blink.
